What led you to working at BBR? Tell us about your career so far in fitness, how long you’ve been a trainer and how you came across Ryan and BBR…

I first starting working in the fitness industry when I was 21 as a casual trainer at an F45 studio in Sydney. From there I became the Studio Manager and stayed with the F45 franchise for four years as a Studio Manager across three different studios. During this time I was also a casual trainer at a few different boutique studios in Sydney, and then at The Clubhouse in North Fremantle once I moved back to Perth.

I came across Ryan and BBR via a deep social media stalk of the boutique fitness studios in Perth, and have been following the BBR crew for a couple of years now!

Where was your first job and the biggest lesson you learnt from it?! (And we mean first… paper boy etc!)

My first job was whilst living at the AIS as a tour guide of the campus! The biggest lesson I learnt was to be prepared and make sure you have acquired the knowledge of what you’re actually talking about before trying to sell it to a group ha ha! (me not knowing what any of the buildings actually were for)

What is your personal sport/fitness background?

I am from a soccer background, I started playing when I was 5 and was lucky enough to become a professional (albeit very short lol).

I also like to have a dabble in golf in my down time!

Ok, back up champ… professional soccer career? We want to know more…

I was lucky enough to represent Australia under 17s at the World Cup in Mexico, and captained the under 20s and played for the under 23s. I also played for the Perth Glory for three years before moving to Sydney FC for 1.5 years, until I struggled with injuries and found I didn’t have the same love and passion for it anymore… that’s when I found my way to a fitness career.

What does your training look like now? We’ve seen the rig on the BBR social media and whatever you’re doing – it’s working!

Haha! My training varies quite a bit if I’m honest, depending on how my body is feeling and what my soccer schedule is that week it can sometimes be very inconsistent.

When I train I like to incorporate a lot of metabolic conditioning and bodyweight movements into my workouts, as well a lot of core stability/Pilates. Recently I’ve been getting more into the Strength side of things and have been focusing on my compound lifts etc.

But a normal week for me could look like 3-4 personal weighted/conditioning sessions, 2 BBR sessions, 1 Pilates class, and 3 soccer sessions!

Do you eat to a meal plan similar to BBR? Take us through a typical day on a plate with Riley!

My diet hasn’t really changed much in 5 years ha ha, my partner Harley likes to say I’m a simpleton and eat boring but I find it works for me!

I always start my day (Monday – Friday) with either a 5-egg white omelette or some oats/protein/berries, I eat about 3 pieces of fruit across the morning, have a long black and some rice thins/carrots with hummus. Lunch is always chicken breast, sweet potato, broccoli and quinoa, a can of tuna and some nuts in the afternoon as well as a protein shake. And then dinner is whatever Harley has made (she loves to cook!), which is normally a protein and veg Monday – Thursday.

Weekends I like to let my hair down!

What do you enjoy most about coaching and working in the fitness industry?

I love to see people being healthy in general – seeing people out on a run, eating good foods and being active makes me happy. So being able to work in an industry that helps people become the healthiest version of themselves and witness transformations and the changes people make to their lives when they incorporate exercise and good food is very rewarding. Being a part of that system / process is what I enjoy and it gets me up in the morning!

What is it like coaching at BBR in particular?

Working at BBR feels like the pinnacle of studios in WA if I’m honest. The coaches are always bang on with every cue, every demonstration and every set up of the room. The professionalism that Ryan has created at BBR and the standards he demands from us is unrivalled in the industry from what I have witnessed. Ryan is great, he’s a true mentor and will go out of his way to help all of us grow and achieve success. He rides you when he knows you can do better and won’t shy away from telling you that you need to lift and do more, however he will always praise your success and celebrate your wins.

Coaching the BBR members is an honest joy, every person in the room is always wanting to be their best in the sessions and work towards their goals, and no one ever complains if you set them targets or want them to give a few more reps! The community at BBR is extremely welcoming and I’m very grateful to be apart of it all!

What are your regular health routines outside of training that keep you feeling your best? What are your non-negotiables?

I need a minimum 7 hours sleep non negotiable otherwise I’m a sad shell of a human haha. Outside of that I like to get into the ocean most days and always go through some mobility in the mornings even if it’s my day off.

Inspire us with any goals you are working towards right now, from fitness to life!

It’s really uninspiring but my current ‘fitness’ goals are based around how I’m currently feeling in my body. I have bad hip impingement from overuse kicking (five cortisones and I’m still here haha) so my current goals are to be able to move pain free and not have dull aches in my hip! So for me unfortunately it might be changing what my training looks like and sacrificing some aesthetic goals for freedom of movement!

Life goals, I have just left the other businesses I was working for to be solely at BBR, so my goal is to get set up at BBR and have regular clients for my PT business and to continue to expand my knowledge within the fitness industry!
