BURSTING INTO GYM WITH A HUGE SMILE AND PLENTY OF CHAT, CAROLYN TURNBULL JOINED US NINE MONTHS AGO WITH A VERY DIFFERENT ATTITUDE TO THE ONE THAT WON HER THE TITLE OF BODIES BY RYAN’S ‘MISS JANUARY’. DASHING IN LATE AND ENJOYING THE ODD CHAT BETWEEN ASS BIKES, CAROLYN IS A WOMAN ON A MISSION. ALWAYS ON TIME AND SMASHING HER HIIT GYM SESSIONS AT 100 MILES PER HOUR, THE TRAINERS ARE IN AWE OF THE BIG MONTH CAROLYN HAS PUT IN WHEN MOST MEMBERS ARE EITHER MIA OR SLOWLY RECOVERING FROM A FEW TOO MANY CHAMPAGNES DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON. CAROLYN IS IN FOR A BIG 2020 AND HAS STARTED WITH A BANG. HERE’S WHAT MAKES HER TICK!
What’s your fitness history?
Since relocating from Singapore to Perth three years ago, I have tried to maintain a regular fitness routine consisting of HIIT classes and spin sessions while balancing family, work and travel commitments.
What first made you want to try Bodies by Ryan?
My friend Michelle Smith (aka Miss BBR) convinced me to make the switch from my previous gym and said that I would never look back! The rest is history.
What was your first impression of BBR?
Disciplined is the first word that comes to mind! I have been reprimanded on a number of occasions for being one minute late and for chatting during class so I have taken the feedback onboard and feel I am now officially a true BBR member, making the most of every session!
What have your biggest changes been since starting BBR?
Being well organised and planning for the week ahead is the only way to stay on track.
What are your favourite things about training here?
I love the BBR community. Ryan and his dedicated team have built a great group of likeminded people, all striving to be the best version of themselves.
Has your nutrition changed much – was it difficult making changes?
I really enjoy entertaining and dining out so I have had to curb my socialising and adopt a more sensible meal plan. #SAYNO #STTP
What are the biggest health/fitness hurdles you have overcome?
My mental strength has improved over time which helps to maintain a consistent level of exercise.
Every BBR session is hard, no matter how fit you are – how do you mentally push through when things are really tough?
I try to focus on specific goals that I am currently working on (fitness, work, family etc..) and channel each work-out as one step closer to achieving these goals.
What are your current goals you’re working towards?
Smashing the 8-week challenge and pairing consistent exercise with healthy eating habits.
Tell us something about Carolyn that we might not know about you?
I have an awesome family, been married to Stu for nearly 20 years and love being a mum to Billy (14 years) and Brooke (13 years).
